Where To Stay In Abang, Karangasem, Bali: Villa Di Bias Hotel Review
If you’re searching for where to stay in Abang, Karangasem, Bali, and want somewhere surrounded by nature rather than crowds, then Villa Di Bias is one of the best hidden gems I found in East Bali.
Tucked away amongst rice fields in the quiet countryside of Karangasem Regency, this small hotel combines incredible views, peaceful isolation, and surprisingly affordable prices. Rooms here typically cost around 750,000 IDR to 950,000 IDR per night, which is roughly £35–£50 GBP or $45–$65 USD depending on the season.
After spending several nights here exploring local temples, walking through the rice paddies, and waking up to one of the most beautiful sunrise views I’ve ever had from a hotel anywhere in the world, I can confidently say this is one of the best places to stay in Abang Bali if you want a quieter side of the island away from the busy tourist hotspots.

A Quiet Escape In East Bali
Before arriving at Villa Di Bias, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I’d booked the cheapest room available and, strangely enough, my biggest concern was whether the room would actually have much of a view.
That concern disappeared almost instantly.
After arriving, the staff welcomed us with a drink at reception while the room was prepared. It probably wasn’t necessary because the room was already close to ready, but it created a really nice first impression and gave the whole arrival a more personal feel.
Then came the walk to the room.
Passing through the landscaped gardens and seeing the rice paddies stretching into the distance was the moment I realised this hotel was something special.
One Of The Best Hotel Views I’ve Ever Had
The view from the room is genuinely incredible. Easily top five hotel views I’ve ever experienced.
The room design makes the most of it too. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows let in loads of natural light and ensure you can see the landscape from almost anywhere — whether you’re lying in bed, sitting at the desk, or relaxing on the futon.
The room itself feels bright, spacious, and airy thanks to the white walls, light floor tiles, and simple décor. It comes close to being minimalist to the point of blandness, but the wooden furniture and decorative touches stop it from feeling sterile.
There’s also plenty of storage space with large wooden wardrobes and drawers hiding away all the practical extras:
- Complimentary slippers
- Safe
- Bug spray
- Tea and coffee
- Mini bar snacks
- Even a yoga mat
Because, well… this is Bali after all.
The only thing that looked slightly out of place was the fridge, which seemed oddly worn compared to the rest of the room.
The Bathroom: Beautiful But Slightly Impractical
The bathroom switches to a darker aesthetic while keeping the same oversized windows theme.
Normally, having huge windows next to the shower and toilet could feel awkward, but because of the room positioning, privacy wasn’t really an issue. You could leave the blinds open and enjoy the scenery while showering without accidentally traumatising anyone nearby.
One downside was ventilation. After showering, the bathroom became a little musty because there wasn’t much airflow.
And like many places surrounded by nature in Bali, you have to be careful leaving doors open unless you want wildlife moving in with you.
Despite my best efforts, a gecko successfully invaded the room and claimed a corner for the duration of my stay.
Honestly though, I couldn’t blame him. It’s a nice room.
Food Delivered Straight To Your Room
One thing I loved about Villa Di Bias was how isolated it felt.
There’s very little within walking distance, but instead of that becoming inconvenient, it actually made the stay feel peaceful and private. Meals can be ordered directly to your room through a WhatsApp group with the staff, which works surprisingly well.
Breakfast was included each morning and delivered straight to the room. The options were fairly standard but consistently good.
The staff also arranged a scooter rental for me, which made exploring the surrounding area incredibly easy.
Exploring Rural Bali By Scooter
One of the best parts of staying here was being able to escape the busy tourist areas and explore quieter parts of Bali.
I spent one day visiting local temples and another morning walking through the rice fields beneath the hotel.
Related Blogs & Local Places To Check Out
To reach the fields, you simply follow a small path past a few houses before suddenly finding yourself completely surrounded by farmland.
I did check with both the hotel staff and local residents first because it felt more like private land than a tourist attraction. Everyone seemed perfectly happy for me to explore though — although I definitely stood out wandering around the rice paddies with a drone and camera gear.
That sunrise walk ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.
The Honeymoon Villa vs The Cheapest Room
During my stay, one of the staff members kindly showed me around the more expensive honeymoon villa upstairs.
It featured an infinity pool, huge outdoor space, and a more luxurious setup overall.
And yes — it was beautiful.
But surprisingly, I actually preferred the cheaper room I’d booked.
The honeymoon villa sits slightly further back, meaning part of the view is blocked by the extra outdoor area. In my cheaper room, the landscape was visible from virtually every angle.
Sometimes less really is more.
Why Villa Di Bias Stands Out
There were a few things that made this hotel genuinely memorable.
The View
Obviously.
The Staff
Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Small touches — like letting me explore the honeymoon villa — made the experience feel personal rather than transactional.
The Privacy
I barely saw another guest during my entire stay. It felt completely isolated in the best possible way.
Before travelling to Bali, I worried some areas might feel overcrowded with influencers, party crowds, and endless Instagram photoshoots. That’s why I deliberately chose quieter locations and smaller hotels.
Villa Di Bias delivered exactly what I wanted:
- Peace
- Privacy
- Incredible scenery
- Freedom to explore rural Bali by scooter
Final Thoughts: Is Villa Di Bias Worth It?
Absolutely.
When you stay somewhere and genuinely don’t want to leave, that usually says everything.
At under 950,000 IDR per night, around £50 GBP or $65 USD, Villa Di Bias offers ridiculous value for money. The views alone would justify a far higher price tag.
If you’re looking for a quieter side of Bali away from the crowds, this place is hard to beat.
And honestly, waking up to that sunrise over the rice fields is something I probably won’t forget anytime soon.
