I’m Thom

Once I settled into working life in my early twenties, travel never really felt affordable or achievable. It always seemed out of reach, and not because I wasn’t interested but because I never really explored the possibilities.

Travel

A truly awful job motivated me to pursue something meaningful, so I threw myself into photography. With some disposable income, I started taking 2–3 trips a year. which at the time felt like a huge achievement.

Redundant

Being made redundant turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. With little money but newfound freedom, I made photography my full-time career and discovered the joys of cheap flights, traveling ten times in a single year across Europe

Photographer

Since those humble beginnings, photography has grown to provide a decent living. Nothing flashy, but enough to enjoy life and travel to far more expensive and exotic destinations than those first low-cost European trips.

I count myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to take all these amazing trips and to work in a job I genuinely love. It’s a solid mixture of luck, hard work, and being fortunate enough to be in a position to make that hard work possible.

So why start a website and write about travel? I’m genuinely passionate about it. While I’m not a fan of the cliché that “travel broadens your mind” or other pretentious sayings, I do believe travel can make life more meaningful and fulfilling. Some of my best memories come from travelling with friends and loved ones, sharing experiences together, but equally from travelling alone.

I also wanted a place to share my travel photography, somewhere beyond my handful of Instagram followers, so people could see the photos I take and read about my experiences and opinions. The topics I write about are ones I’m genuinely interested in, spend a lot of time researching, and am passionate about. I hope that by sharing them, others can have experiences similar to the ones I’ve enjoyed.

How You Can Support Thom Travels

Give me your money!

no, not really.

I work hard to keep all my content easy to read, helpful, and free from annoying pop-ups and intrusive ads. There’s nothing worse than trying to quickly find an answer, only to be bombarded with distractions.

That said, I do use affiliate links across most of my blogs. These usually point to hotels, tours, and experiences I’ve personally used, or things that are relevant to the content you’re reading. Every blog takes a fair amount of time to research, write, and keep updated.

So, if you’re planning to book a hotel or tour anyway, I’d really appreciate it if you considered using one of my affiliate links to Expedia or Viator. It doesn’t cost you anything extra, but it helps support the site and allows me to keep creating ad-light travel guides.

Feel Free to Say hello.
