When booking a hotel in Yangon, I knew straight away that I wanted to stay somewhere high-end. Five-star hotels in Myanmar offer exceptional value for money, and the Pan Pacific Yangon stood out as a strong option — both for price and location.
The hotel is well positioned for many of the things I had planned during my stay, making it a convenient base for exploring the city while still offering a calm, luxurious retreat at the end of the day.

Pan Pacific Yangon Hotel Review
Booking & First Impressions
My first interaction with the Pan Pacific was via Expedia's messaging system. I contacted the hotel to ask when payment would be taken, as the confirmation details suggested it would be charged a few days before arrival. The hotel replied promptly to say that payment would be taken at the property.
Personally, I prefer to pay in advance, ideally at the time of booking as it suits my well-organised style of travel. That said, paying at the hotel wasn’t an issue.
Arriving at night, the exterior of the hotel is pleasant but fairly understated. There’s nothing particularly grand about it. The reception is located on the first floor, so your first step is entering a lift rather than walking directly into a lobby.
Once you exit the lift, however, the experience changes completely. You’re greeted by a long, elegant reception space with restaurants on either side. It’s a genuinely impressive area that immediately gives off a sense of quality. As I was visiting close to Christmas, the decorations were tastefully done and added to the atmosphere.
Check-in was smooth, easy, and professional.
Wi-Fi & Connectivity
I initially had trouble connecting to the hotel Wi-Fi, which turned out to be because my phone was still connected to NordVPN. NordVPN does not work in Myanmar. Once I switched to SpeedTop, the connection worked perfectly.
This isn’t a fault of the hotel, but it’s worth knowing in advance.
The Room
The rooms are where the Pan Pacific really shines.
The first thing I noticed was the beautiful wooden detailing around the door, a design theme that continues throughout the room. The quality of materials and attention to detail are consistent and impressive.
Highlights include:
- A Japanese-style toilet that automatically opens when you enter the bathroom
- A large walk-in shower and separate bath
- A very comfortable, generously sized bed
- A stylish bathroom layout, including a slightly tilted floor that adds a subtle design touch
The view from the room was genuinely enjoyable. Looking out over Yangon, there’s a striking contrast between the roughness and chaos of the city below and the calm, refined environment inside the hotel. I loved my time in Yangon, which probably makes me a little biased, but I found the view strangely comforting.
Dining at the Hotel
After settling in, my travel companion and I decided to have dinner at the hotel.
While waiting, a staff member kindly offered to show me around one of the hotel’s private dining and event spaces. It was a small gesture, but it showed genuine pride in the hotel and a willingness to go the extra mile.
We sat in The Teak Bar, though I believe we ordered from the Saan Restaurant menu. The food was of a high standard. While it’s expensive by Myanmar standards, our bill came to around $60 for two people, which I consider very reasonable for the quality and setting.
Pool & Spa Facilities
The swimming pool has a great view overlooking Holy Trinity Anglican Church, which makes for a very pleasant setting.
However, one downside was the water temperature. I visited around 8am, and the pool was still in shade, the water was freezing. This put me off returning for another morning swim, which was disappointing as mornings were the only time I had available.
The changing rooms also house the spa facilities, including saunas and a hot tub. One thing worth noting is that the spa area is not mixed-gender. If you’re travelling with a partner, you won’t be able to enjoy the spa together, which may be a drawback for some.
Gym
Hotel gyms are always subjective, depending on how seriously you train.
For me, gym access is important when travelling, and I was pleasantly surprised. As hotel gyms go, this is a high-standard facility — good equipment, enough machines, and once again, fantastic views over the city. It comfortably met my needs.
Breakfast
Breakfast was one of the highlights of the stay.
I had recently stayed at a Ritz-Carlton with an outstanding breakfast, and while the Pan Pacific doesn’t quite reach that level, it’s not far behind, especially when you consider the room rate is around seven times cheaper.
There’s an excellent selection, good quality, and a relaxed atmosphere. For the price point, it’s genuinely impressive.
Is the Pan Pacific Yangon Worth Staying At?
The Pan Pacific Yangon offers exceptional value for money. It combines comfort, quality, and thoughtful design with professional service and excellent facilities.
While there are a few minor downsides, the cold pool water and non-mixed spa, they don’t take away from what is overall a very strong five-star experience, especially at this price point.
If you’re looking for a comfortable, high-end base in Yangon, this is a hotel I would happily recommend.
